Import Export Code

  • For a person/organization importing or exporting goods/services from India, registration under IEC is required.
  • It is issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce and industries, Government of India which can be used by the organization for its lifetime without any requirement for renewal.

  • Why IEC?

  • Quoting of IEC is required at the time of clearing customs while importing goods into India.
  • Banks also require the IEC while sending money abroad
  • No requirements for return filing
  • Quoting of IEC is required while sending shipments by exporters from India
  • There is no requirement to incorporate business entity to obtain IEC. Even proprietors can obtain IEC.

  • Documents Required:

  • Identity Proof of the applicant (passport, driving license, Aadhaar card, voters id, ration card,etc)
  • Business Proof of the entity (Partnership deed/incorporation certificate/ registration certificate)
  • Bank certificate/cancelled cheque to ensure that the applicant has an active bank account in India
  • Business Address Proof (Sale deed for self-owned, Rent deed/Lease deed if rented)
  • LatESI electricity or telephone bill with business address
  • Photocopy of applicant
  • DIN details (if applicant is a director)
  • Digital Signature Certificate
